Dr. Hopkins presented at the 2010 Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics
Fall Conference on Dec. 3, 2010. His topic was "PreCalculus Animations with
Geogebra". His abstract was
"Geogebra is free, web-based software that does
dynamic graphing. This allows
for animations that illustrate topics in Pre-Calculus. This talk shows
animations and instruction on how to create more.
Come with ideas for dynamic
illustrations you would like to create."
About 25 people attended his session.
Handouts are available at
http://users.sbuniv.edu/~khopkins/handouts/mctmtalk.zip.
During the conference, he ran into former students.

Krystal Gooding and Erin Welch who are at Bolivar.

Lisa Warren who is student teaching in Camdenton.

Rodney Edington and Sandy Foster who are at Stockton

His son accompanied him to the conference to assist with the Missouri ARML (http://math.missouristate.edu/MissouriARML.htm) table. Eric enjoyed helping math teachers with the math contest problems that the ARML table provided (and answering all the questions).

Above are two photos from the event. One is while Dr. Hopkins is showing his "camp bag", as his running of a camp was mentioned several times in the nomination letters. They read portions of the nomination letters. I was able to save a video (you may need a Quicktime player), 60 MB, of the awards presentation.
Dr. Hopkins did not get a chance to make any
"acceptance remarks", but if he had they would have been that he is amazed by
and grateful to God for the many opportunities for service to students and
teachers of mathematics that God has provided him in his twenty two years of
service at SBU.
