I will be posting evaluation results here as I get
them back from
parents ,
students , counselors, and
general comments made . I have already decided on a few
things that I need to change for next year.
- If I allow electronics at all (like a Game Cube), limit the time
to an hour a night and have a set schedule so that everyone feels they
are getting fair opportunity to participate.
- I need to get to campus earlier on the first day to be sure
everything is ready so I can talk more with parents as they drop off
their children at camp. A few parents would have liked to have an
opening session, but I am not quite sure what to do in such a session,
nor am I sure how that would work out time-wise with parents arriving
at different times to drop off the kids.
- I need to do a better job communicating with parents/applicants
before the camp. I relied on email and know a few applicants did
not have the most recent information about what to bring to camp.
- I need to send the expectations
for the campers to them in advance, so they know more what to expect
BEFORE arriving at camp.
- I need to let my counselors know earlier what kinds of things
they will be doing and find some way to get them some "time off" during
the week.
- I need to go with an earlier "lights out" time (for the younger
kids, 11 pm was TOO LATE).
Below are the evaluation questions as
sent home with the kids.
For questions 1-12, they were to choose between: Strongly Agree, Agree,
Neutral, Disagree, Strongly Disagree

General Comments:
These were comments made in general about the camp, either on
evaluations (not in response to any single question),in emails after
the camp, or on the "thank you card" from the camp.
- I hope you're resting and enjoying your summer after a fun week
of Math Contest Camp. I sincerely think the campers had a great
time; considering it was a first camp experience for so many, that is
wonderful. We're involved this week with a robotics class at
another location. I can heartily tell you that the campers in the
Math Contest Camp were greatly blessed. The other camp has
had problems
that we just didn't have to encounter in a Chrisitan environment with
Christian counselors/staff. Thank you for that!
- It was a very positive experience for my son, as well as so many
of the campers. I was, overall, very pleased. I've been
telling others about the camp, and so has my son. He truly did
enjoy the experience, and I'm sure it has encouraged him to look with
more excitement at the challenges of math. I do want to mention
to you that I,
personally, think the evening speakers was a highlight of the
week.
To hear the Judge say that a background in math aided him in his
ability
as a trial lawyer, and now as a judge, was something I'd never have put
together; I greatly enjoyed and was encouraged by his
testimony.
The coach that uses math to aide in his coaching tactics was
interesting. The High School teacher that spoke the last evening
was a blessing. Together, those moments of mentor-encouragement
have potential to reap great rewards. I just want you to
know that your transparant heart to know and follow God's will for you
was a real blessing; much more that you probably know, to all who were
there. So.... Thanks! for your obedience to do what was in
your heart to do.
- Thanks for being obedient to God's unique calling on your
creating this camp-I was blessed and I'm sure the kids were too!
Coloss.

- Dr. Hopkins, I can't thank you enough for giving me the
opportunity to be a counselor here. I really appreciate this and
I had a lot of fun. Hope to see you again sometimes perhaps.
- Dr., Thanks for the opportunity. It has been a real
blast. Let's hope we can keep it going. Let me know how I
can help.
