Southwest Baptist University is a Christ-centered, caring, academic community preparing students to be servant leaders in a global society.
It is expected that all students will behave in a Christ-like fashion and uphold the highest standards of integrity and personal ethics. Students who cheat, plagiarize, misuse SBU computing resources, violate SBU computer usage policy, misrepresent the truth, or make false statements to University faculty, administration or staff will be held accountable for their actions. Such conduct is inconsistent with the Christian lifestyle and Biblical principles (Col. 3:17; I Thess. 5:22; Ex. 20:16; Deut. 5:20; Prov. 6:16-19; 12:22; Psalm 97:10). If student misconduct occurs, the misconduct will be dealt with as described in the SBU Student Handbook. Any student assignment that is plagiarized or is associated with cheating will be assigned a zero.
Faith Integration Statement
The Mission Statement and Vision Statement of Southwest Baptist University explicitly state that University activities are to be Christ-centered and that instruction will be from a Christian perspective. Every attempt will be made to integrate into this course the Christian faith, Christian world view and Biblical values consistent with the Baptist heritage of the University (See University Catalog).
TENTATIVE COURSE OUTLINE--Summer Schedule (see http://users.sbuniv.edu/~khopkins/trcc/schedule09.htm )
University Attendance Policy
(University Catalog)
Every course taught at Southwest Baptist University shall have an attendance policy that is part of the course syllabus. To receive the most benefit from course work, the student is expected to attend all class sessions.
· If attendance is used as part of the student’s grade for the course, the syllabus shall contain an explanation of the rationale for the attendance component of the grade and the consequences of an absence.
· The attendance policy shall conform to the provisions of the Southwest Baptist University Catalog and Student Handbook regarding absences for Illness, Family Emergency, University Sanctioned Event, or Extraordinary Circumstances Beyond the Control of the Student but Deemed Excusable by the Instructor.
· Students shall be allowed to make up each assignment/test missed for one of these reasons with an assignment/test of equal value and of equal course content.
· Performance-based, group-sensitive, and other such courses dependent upon restrictive performance attendance, restrictive scheduling, and time issues (such as clinical certification requirements) cannot offer separate make-up assignments and will necessarily maintain more strict policies regarding the attendance component and its effect on the final grade.
· Exceptions to this policy must be approved by the Dean of the appropriate college.
Reporting Absences
Students should first attempt to communicate directly with their instructors regarding class absences. The following procedures exist for the purpose of enabling undergraduate students to obtain official documentation in cases where absences are due to illness, family emergency, or a university sanctioned activity.
1. Illness. On the first day of class absence the student is required to provide the instructor with written verification by the Director of Health Services or from a Doctor or nurse.
2. Family Emergency. A family emergency consists of a death in the family, a serious illness of a family member, a serious accident involving a family member, or some other family crisis. Students who find it necessary to be away from campus and absent from class due to a family emergency should contact the Office of Student Life (328-1885). The Office of Student Life will notify the Office of the Provost. The Office of the Provost will notify the appropriate faculty members.
3. University Sanctioned Activity. The student is responsible for obtaining a memorandum regarding the activity from the University sponsor or coach. The student should present the memorandum to the instructor prior to the absence and is responsible for all make-up work prescribed by the instructor.
In case of inclement weather, the course will meet as scheduled unless the University cancels all classes. Students commuting to school should use their own discretion as to their ability to safely make it to campus for class. As soon as possible, please call or email the instructor if inclement weather keeps you from attending class.
